A collection inspired by, and celebrating, the new King of the United Kingdom, King Charles III.

On 6^th May 2023, King Charles III was crowned and we welcomed in a new monarch. Cumbria Crystal wanted to create a collection that would live beyond these celebratory days and mark this very special event in British history.

Introducing Sovereign

Our first new collection in many years, Sovereign is unique due to its non-geometric pattern in honour of our King's connection and adoration for nature and flowers. It is the first non-geometric collection of handblown and cut crystal collection produced by Cumbria Crystal.

Designed in-house by Master Cutter Jitka Wilcox to echo motifs in the the Coronation Emblem Jitka created an organic, floral theme for this collection. As in nature, each and every item is very slightly different. The emblem pays tribute to The King's love of the natural world, unifying the flora of the four nations of the United Kingdom.

The design of Sovereign includes the delicate meadow flower, the daisy, connected by intricate stems decorated with leaves.

This wine goblet has the floral design wrapped around its core, which then reaches across the foot of the glass in two places, further reinforcing the connection with nature.

The design benefits from the addition of eight hand-cut flutes which radiate from the foot, up the stem, and into the base of the bowl adding an extra degree of sparkle and sophistication.

About the designer

Jitka has 27 years’ experience of diamond wheel glass cutting and has worked at Cumbria Crystal since 2004. She spent 3.5 years at a glass technology college, studying glass cutting in the Czech Republic, before graduating and working for a further 16 years in a Czech crystal factory. Jitka is able to translate the most demanding, complex and intricate designs into beautiful products. Cumbria Crystal is famous for the incredible cutting craftsmanship and it is worth noting that the precision and perfection of our glass belies the fact that every piece is completely handcrafted. Jitka enjoys the challenge presented by the Grasmere design but, when the opportunity arises, she adores more freestyle designs such as the flowers and leaves on Sovereign.
