Women of Brittany 1920 

Émile-Auguste Wéry Art Nouveau artist and printmaker was born in Reims in 1868. Wéry was a pupil of Léon Bonnat, Jules Lefebvre, and François Flameng. He exhibited with the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. Among many prizes, Wéry won a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900. As a young man, Émile-Auguste Wéry was a friend of Henri Matisse, but the paths of the two artists diverged. Bretagne The Brittany region can be found in the north west of France on the Breton Peninsula, between the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel. Today it is one of France's favourite holiday destinations with 600 kilometres of coastline providing sheltered sandy bays, little harbours, dramatic rugged cliffs, islands and pretty estuaries. Inland, gentle wooded hills and rivers offer excellent walking and fishing, with lovely old towns steeped in history to explore.

 
Not unlike the Maitres de L'Affiche series, L'Estampe Moderne was a portfolio printed between 1897-98, published by Imprimerie Champenois, Paris, contained 24 monthly portfolios, with four original lithographs in each. Each commissioned only for this series. Some of the contributing artists included Mucha, Rhead, Meunier, Ibels, Steinlen, Willette and Grasset.
