95 Points - Daniel Blais. The 45-year old vines are planted in complex soils comprising alluvial deposits, rich clay and iron oxide. This combination of factors produces a Nuits-Saint-Georges that is at once sophisticated and strong, thereby setting it apart from the other less well situated terroirs within the appellation. Handpicked, the grapes are transported to the cellar in 15 kg crates before being sorted by hand so as to solely use perfectly ripened and healthy grapes. 100% de-stemmed, the grapes are then transformed into wine using the harvest’s natural yeast. This is a solid and full bodied wine, with a complex nose of stewed fruit, truffle and spicy aromas.
About the Producer
Domaine Decelle & Fils was started in 2008 when two distinguished winemakers from other regions of France decided to pool their talents and produce high quality Burgundy wines. Olivier Decelle is the vigneron behind Mas Amiel in Roussillon, and he also revived Château Jean Faure in Saint-Émilion. Pierre-Jean Villa was part of a boutique Rhône negociant, and he is also a Rhone Valley vigneron. Now they have purchased and restored an historic 19th century cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges along with about 20 acres of vineyards in various Burgundy locations. They also source grapes from Gevrey-Chambertin to Chassagne-Montrachet for their Domaine Decelle-Villa venture. The domaine makes more than a dozen wines, from a Grand Cru and Premiers Crus to village and regional appellations.
Taste
Shiny dark and deep red colour. Its nose exhales stewed fruit, truffle and spicy aromas. Its tannins are entirely expressed on the palate, within an imposing structure, thereby indicating a good potential for ageing. This is a solid and full bodied wine.
Serving temperature: 15 to 16°.
