90 Points - Jeff Leve. Château Vrai Canon Bouché hails from Canon Fronsac and since 2005 it has become one of this commune’s leading wines. Its single vineyard is planted with a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc and is hand-tended like it was a garden. The owners have steadily reduced the use of chemicals and have deployed natural methods to restore the soil’s vitality. 2017 was a particularly successful year for the property. Writing in the Wine Insider, Jeff Leve awarded it 90 points noting it was, ‘Dark in colour, you'll instantly find floral notes to accompany the basket of red fruits and thyme. The wine is juicy, soft and fruity with spicy liquorice accents in the finish.’

Taste

Deeply coloured and with an inviting floral fragrance, the care and attention that’s been lavished on this wine is clear from the outset.  The soft, rounded palate is full of juicy red berries, plums, creamy chocolate and spicy liquorice notes on the long, smoky finish.  Lovely now, it will drink well for another 7-10 years.

About the Producer

Although Château Vrai Canon Bouché is at the heart of an ancient vine-growing region, its modern history begins in 2005. Philip Haseth Moller a Dutch businessman and wine lover purchased the property in 2005 and began a process of comprehensive improvement. Management was entrusted to Jean de Laitre, advised by the famous consultant, Stéphane Derenoncourt. Vines were replanted, and the 12-hectare vineyard’s health naturally reinvigorated while investment was pumped into the winery with concrete vats and new oak barrels being brought in. Today, Château Vrai Canon Bouché produces a modern style of Bordeaux that is faithful to its historic roots.
