As a safety device, the main hoop of the cage protects the driver from impact. The rear braces and side bars tie the main hoop and chassis together to strengthen the car.

Sanctioning body rules require that every chromoly roll bar or roll cage be TIG welded. It is the installers responsibility to assure that the bar or cage is installed to meet the race organizations rules as to fit or placement of components and the welding process.
