A very fine antique burl & figured walnut marquetry Davenport desk, circa 1860.

The davenport is made from the finest highly figured burl walnut, to the top is a lift up lid with a fitted interior for pens, envelopes & other writing materials.
Below is a lift up slant-fronted lid with a blind tooled brown leather inset writing surface, both the top & front are finely inlaid with floral satinwood marquetry inlay. To the inside is a storage well with four interior drawers (the top two are dummy) with ebony handles, the interior is lined in blond maple. The knee area below the desk is inlaid with satinwood line inlay, this is flanked by a pair of carved & reticulated brackets with spiral columns terminating to carved acanthus leaf corbel bracket supports. The right side of the Davenport having a set of four drawers, each with a pair of small bun shaped pulls, the left side having four corresponding dummy drawers. The desk is raised on four compressed bun feet each set with the original porcelain caster, the original key is present for the desk.
Condition is very good indeed, the davenport is of the very finest quality and is in great condition and ready to grace your home or office.
