Transmission Swap from a Newer Vehicle

Most available transmissions come from 2005 and newer Legacy and Outback models, 2008 and newer Impreza models, or 2009 and newer Forester models. These transmissions are all CANbus-based and do not include vehicle speed sensors. This lack of a speed sensor poses a challenge for older vehicles, such as the 2002-2007 WRX, which are not CANbus-based. These older models require a mechanical gear within the transmission that spins a sensor to generate a signal that the ECU and cluster can understand.
