Two brothers, Peter and Heinrich Weil, founded the company in 1896. The company was assembling bicycles called “Weil-Räder” and “Torpedo-Räder”. This company introduced a typewriter called “Hassia” in 1905. Some improvements were made and Torpedo 2 was released in 1906. In 1931, the majority of shares were purchased by Remington Rand, New York, USA. In 1944, the factory in Rödelheim was destroyed in a bombing. After the war, new factories were opened in Rödelheim and the Netherlands. One million typewriters were produced by 1958.
