Here we have a WPA era watercolor painting of a World World 2 soldier resting in the sun. What an amazing and unique scene, very different from typical wartime art images. I love the relaxed nature and the point of view through a distance open doorway.  This is all the business, and business is good. 

The painting is hauntingly titled “Soon Far from Home”, and was created by Alvin M. Arndt in 1942 while he atended the Cleveland Art School.  The watercolor painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Here’s a description of the painting:

“Alvin, looking out at a pensive GI, on the line, sunning himself and watching Jeeps go by. Later this man went to the Pacific. On the line was where the action was, planes took off and landed. Here training took place.”

Here’s the artist bio:

Alvin M. Arndt was born on May 19, 1913 in Springfield, Minnesota. He went to grade and high school in Madison, Minnesota and later attended Cleveland Art School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, in the European Theater during World War 2. 

The unframed WPA era painting measures 13" tall by 9" wide. There is slight patina throughout the painting from age. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
