Close Up Diopters enable you to get closer focus on large cinema lenses while maintaining edge sharpness and overall image performance. Perfect for anamorphic lenses which generally have an increased minimum focus, these large diopters allow you to reduce your minimum focus distance by as much as half.

Which diopter strength do you need? 

Diopter values are based on the metric scale. A +1 diopter will result in 1 meter focus at your lens’ infinity focus setting. If you want to know the new infinity focus in feet, then you will need to convert from 1 meter to 3.3 feet. You’ll also want to work out your new minimum focus distance.

Most people own a set of diopters to cover the range. If you find yourself wanting to work under 1 meter (3.3 feet) close focus then a +2 is the diopter for you. If you want to work just a touch closer for human subjects then a +0.50 will get you that slight bump needed. If you are shooting anamorphic then you will likely need the whole kit because nothing is easy in anamorphic!
