At a lanky 7x17, this antique Karabagh rug from the Caucasus mountains is basically a runway model for the antique rug world, long, bold, and wildly dressed in berry reds, oxidized browns, navy blues, hot pinks, and ivory. Handwoven sometime between 1880 and 1900 with vegetable dyed wool, its low pile still struts a coffee brown field sprinkled with a confetti of Herati (fish) and botanical motifs, marching in somewhat linear formation like they mean business... but not too much business.

The ivory border, sporting serrated leaves and stylized florals, does a fine job of pulling the whole wild color parade together without breaking a sweat. Yes, there’s a little wear and some minor restoration work, but wouldn’t we all be a bit patched up after a century or so? Clean, sturdy, and floor-ready, it’s an antique rug with a fantastic personality that’s not afraid to show it.
