Kim Gyu uses a burning technique to achieve this deep blackened color – however, she loses many pieces to fire. It has taken over a decade of experience and failures to achieve her level of knowledge. Kim Gyu allows her pieces to crack and change colors – and respects her wood and its innate desires.  Kim Gyu only uses local Korean wood. An heirloom to be passed down for generations.
