L’Assiette au Beurre kicked off in 1901 as a weekly publication. The magazine had socialist and anarchist leanings, and often focused on social issues such as labor rights, poverty, education reforms, and other politically charged topics. As time went on, it became increasingly popular among the French people who were eager to see their views represented in the media.
