The Baoule people are a group indigenous to Western Africa known for their rich brass and gold smithing culture. They used as beads for ceremonial purposes for centuries. Larger versions of gold beads like these might be passed down as part of a matrilineal family’s sacred inheritance, which is made of precious objects that are kept as a shrine to the family’s ancestors.
