Aster Hobby is proud to present the legendary P2 Class No. 2001 "Cock o’ the North" to the Gauge 1
hobby. This limited production model from Aster features 3 working cylinders with working inside
Walschaerts and simulated Lentz poppet valve gear outside the frames.
The P2s were the only eight coupled express steam locomotives designed for use in the UK.
Built in 1934, ‘2001’ was the first of the class and the only one fitted with rotary-cam actuated poppet valve
gear. By 1939, the rotary cam valve gear was replaced with Walschaerts gear.
No original P2 locomotives were preserved since the class were all rebuilt into Class A2/2 4-6-2 Pacifics
during World War II. These rebuilds were withdrawn in the 1950s and early 1960s, and eventually scrapped.
Release of this model coincides with the P2 Locomotive Trust’s work to build a new, full size, fully
operational replica for main line operations.
