Description: A beautiful about uncirculated bronze medal. This undated US Mint Restrike Bronze medal shows the bust of Master Commandant Thomas Macdonough bust facing right with the legend "THO. MACDONOUGH. STANGO CHAMPLAIN CLAS. REG. BRIT. SUPERVIT" Surrounding it. The reverse shows naval engagement on Lake Champlain with the legend "UNO LATERE PERCUSSO. ALTERUM IMPAVIDE VERTIT" surrounding it and the legend "INTER CLASS. AMERI. ET BRIT DIE XI SEPT. MDCCCXIIII" in exergue. There is the inscription FURST to the right of the bottom of the bust on the obverse and the inscription C.B. (for Charles Barbar) and FURST on the exergual line under the battle scene on the reverse (suggesting the medal is a post 1878 US mint restrike). The medal is ~65 mm in diameter and weighs ~140 gm. A great historical medal commemorating one of the most important battles of the war of 1812. It is in great condition and worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Dated 1814 and was issued post 1878.

Origin: US mint, Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Artist: Moritz Furst.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~140 grams, is ~65 millimeters in diameter, and ~5.6 millimeters thick at the edge.

References: This is Julian NA-15 and is listed in Failor Hayden as #513.

Maker: US Mint.

Marks: Unmarked.

Condition: I would grade the medal as about uncirculated or better with a nice coloration. It has a plain edge with no objectionable dings. The medal has all its details very well preserved with a minimum of observable wear. It has a minimum of observable surface marks and has nice eye appeal. The medal may have been cleaned in the past but has re-toned since. A great-looking medal that would make a nice addition to your collection of US historic medals. Please view photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of the piece.
