Embrace is part of a series of Personified Tree Figures capturing an aspect of the Human Experience. I chose to use anthropomorphic trees as I felt it would be easier to see the experience rather than seeing another human experiencing something. The viewer can be drawn into the painting by relating to the subjects motivations.

In this piece we see a couple caught up in a passionate embrace. This was my first use of negative space to illustrate the forms, and by doing so illustrate the intertwined merger of souls and bodies in such an embrace. The two figures are individual yet comprised of shared branches making it unclear where one ends and the other begins. The horizon is full of warmth and light brought about as the two figures extend from a cool landscape the way passion and love bring light to our often dark existence.
