Versatile 19th C Antique Boston Nathan Neat Hide Covered Stagecoach Box / Trunk For Office [o7S1MlgO]
Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this wonderful early 19th century stagecoach box by Nathan Neat of Boston. Nathan Neat was a merchant from Charlestown who produced a number of trunks, Valises and other products. Neat started his company in 1825 and this is one of his earlier pieces when he was still on Elm st in Charlestown. His workshop was blocks away from where the Bunker Hill Monument stands today and was conveniently located between the Mystic & Charles River. The original paper liner is still intact and the box retains its original iron lock and hasp. The hide covering is in remarkably good condition with only minimal wear and a couple of small holes. The box has a border comprised of brass tacks and the initials CT written out in tacks. The top has an oval motif, and the original handle is still with the box but as you can see from the top down picture it has broken off. The interior measures 12 3/4” wide x 7 1/2” deep. This box is a rare diminutive size and measures 14” wide x 9” deep x 8” tall. When the lid is fully open the height is 13 3/4” tall.
