18TH CENTURY GEORGE III PERIOD MAHOGANY CORNER STAND WITH GALLERY

This offering is for a great George III period English mahogany corner stand with gallery top and middle drawer transition shelf accented by two faux drawers all with original period brasses. It has a lower base "planter" base (meant to hold a small potted plant) stretcher and stands on gracefully splayed legs. Very late on in the 18th century it appears either the cabinet maker or a close successor made a top that covers a complete three piece cut out tray frame to use this as a corner wash stand or the like. We actually think the original cabinet maker changed his mind after the commission to make this piece. It shows no evidence of any crude hack conversion-nice work! We have seen these with cover boards too that can be removed to expose a frame that held wash stand type containers. This one was installed to stay on. Its back gallery is completely joined with the finest tiny dovetails. A great, 18th Century, English piece of mahogany furniture. It is 24" long, 17" deep, 33" tall at its work surface and 46" tall at the top of the back gallery. Great corner pieces are tough finds-heres a great one!
