Premium Select A Sakiori Obi: Rag Woven Kimono Sash In Saturated Colors Family Size [8Mw7TgcJ]
mid twentieth century
120" x 6 3/4", 305 cm x 17 cm
This is a richly colored and woven sakiori obi, or a traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn. It is somewhat shorter in length than most sakiori obi of similar style.
The warp yarns on this obi are blue and orange-red in color. The weft yarns--thin, shredded rags--are mottled shades of blue and orange primarily so the colored warp yarns create a bold pattern of wide striped color fields.
This hand woven sakiori obi is in very good condition, with no visible holes or stains, and it is a very handsome example of a traditional, sakiori weaving.
An unusually colored, beautifully woven folk textile.
