Unbeatable Price A Zanshi And Sashiko Panel: Hand Loomed Indigo Dyed Cotton In Multiple Colors [qDSOWgGm]
ca. late nineteenth century
45" x 14", 114.25 cm x 35.5 cm
Zanshi ori is a wonderful type of old Japanese hand loomed cloth which is woven from leftover yarns; characteristically, zanshi ori shows an irregular weft pattern--as does this cloth offered here--due to the weft being fed with randomly colored and textured yarns.
This length of hand loomed, indigo dyed cotton shows a good, irregular, weft-based, zanshi striping, a piece of which is stitched to the mainly indigo dyed base cloth. This patch is attached to the base using egularly spaced, vertical bands of sashiko stitching, the sashiko thread being thick and indigo dyed.
The piece is hand stitched from from two pieces with the stitched, zanshi patch being dominant and is positioned on the top third of the length of cloth.
