Oiler gear is also referred to as an oil slinger gear.
This gear's purpose is to pickup oil from the bottom of the transmission case and distribute throughout the transmission by slinging off the spinning gear teeth. Hence the name "oil slinger" gear. This function was especially important when using these tractors for PTO and belt pulley work with stationary equipment to keep the gearbox bearings well lubricated.
Examples of stationary equipment would be post hole diggers, augers, thrashers, hammer mills, and stationary saws to name a few.
