Nefertiti (1300bc), whose name means "a beautiful woman has come," was the queen of Egypt and partner Pharaoh Akhenaten during the 14th century B.C. This was a radical move breaking off from the artistic tradition of their predecessors, where portrayals of Egyptians appeared stenciled and rigid. Perhaps most noteworthy, her husband established the cult of Aten, the Sun God. Egypt, formerly a civilization of polytheistic (many gods) worship, became a monotheistic one, worshipping only one deity, the Sun.
