The Origin Story

Toronto artist, writer and designer, Jessica Hiemstra, is the heart of E+E. Hiemstra, She created the story of an unlikely friendship between a fox and a hare by taking inspiration from old Scandinavian folktales about holiday magic and the beauty of the natural world. From her storybook pages, Eric and Eloise were brought to life by our in-house product development designers and artisan partners in India and China. 

Each character is reminiscent of people in Hiemstra’s life. Eloise the Fox has a quiet, quirky persona, based on our President & Chief Creative Officer Sarah Bagle (& Hiemstra’s cousin). The friendly, bespeckled Frankie the Buck is inspired by our co-founder Frank Hofland. Margie the Doe, with her stylish necktie & elegant, cat-eyeglasses, has a striking likeness to our co-founder Margaret Hofland!
