A rare original concert program from the important Russian pianist, dated January 8, 1892. In the Great Hall of the Russian Noble Assembly, Rubinstein performed his Piano Concerto no. 5, his Fantasia in C, three Romances and his Caprice Russe. Vocal duets were performed by E Lavrovskaya and M. Maharina, with the orchestra conducted by V. I. Safonov. The proceeds of the concert were given in benefit of the victims of the infamous Russian famine of 1891–1892. Single-sheet program, with some light overall wrinkling; otherwise in fine condition. 5.5 x 8.75 inches (14 x 22.5 cm).

Rubinstein ranks among the great 19th-century keyboard virtuosos. He became most famous for his series of historical recitals—seven enormous, consecutive concerts covering the history of piano music. Rubinstein played this series throughout Russia and Eastern Europe and in the United States when he toured there. Rubinstein was also a prolific composer throughout much of his life. He composed five piano concertos, six symphonies and a large number of solo piano works along with a substantial output of works for chamber ensemble. Rubinstein gave his final concert in Saint Petersburg on January 14, 1894.
