Autograph letter on the verso of an oblong color postcard featuring a perfectly representative work from the Belgian artist best known for his paintings in a surrealist, humor-tinged style, often incorporating such trademark elements as the present bowler hat–wearing men. 25 January, 1964. In French, translated in full: "Dear Monsieur Bourgoin, I thank you for having thought to send me the photograph of the drawing that I did in 1936 on the occasion of a visit that Eluard [French poet Paul Éluard, one of the founders of the surrealist movement] and his wife made to my home. It was very nice to see again this drawing. Very cordially, René Magritte." In fine condition. 14 x 10.5 cm. Together with the transmissal envelope.
