Sammelband containing 14 pieces of late eighteenth-century print music for piano, including variations on themes from operas by the Bohemian and Czech composers Gelinek, Gyrowetz, and Vitásek.  Also airs by J. B. Cramer and one T. Latour—either Francis Tatton Latour (fl. 1810), Cramer's original partner in the London music publisher Chappell, or pianist and composer Jean Théodore Latour (1766–1837)—as well as overtures and pieces by Arnold, Baumgarten, and Steibelt, and an excerpt from Haydn's oratorio, The Creation.  Oblong folio.  Music measuring 13 x 9.5 inches (33 x 24 cm).  Works bound together in later fine binding, three-quarter blind-tooled red maroquin and marbled paper, gold titling ("MUSIC | BOOK") and lyre emblems to spine.  Very fine.

The majority of prints in the present volume—11 of the 14 pieces—were published in Offenbach-am-Main by Johann André (1741–1799), who had taken direction of his family's music printing firm in 1784.  "Through good fortune and acumen he was able to establish relations with Pleyel, then (through Paul Wranitzky) with Joseph Haydn and later with Adalbert Gyrowetz.  By virtue of its circumspect treatment of authors and many technical improvements in printing and production the firm flourished considerably, reaching its 1000th item in 1797" (Grove, s.v. 'André family, §1 Johann [Jean] André').  This volume is a witness of this period, containing published pieces by both Haydn and Gyrowetz.
