Original Imperial German M-1898/05 Bayonet and Scabbard
This exquisite piece is a rare find, offering a chance to own an authentic Imperial German M-1898/05 Bayonet and Scabbard. Known as the most common German Bayonet of the First World War, it was designed for the Mauser-designed Gewehr 98 (GEW 98) service rifle. The bayonet features a heavy, 14.5-inch steel blade with a distinctive bulge towards the point, providing additional weight and power for the "butcher blade" style. This n/A (neuer Art = newer model) version lacks the first pattern's vestigial muzzle ring and includes a flashguard on the back of the grip. The M-1898/05 Bayonet is a true testament to its era, with original grooved wood grips that are in fantastic condition. Its bayonet lock remains fully functional, and the blade ricasso bears the clear original maker mark, F.W. HÖLLER SOLINGEN. The spine of the blade, however, lacks markings, suggesting they were likely ground away at some point. Despite this, the absence of a year marking on the crossguard indicates it is not a Weimer-reused bayonet but was still used post-war. The blade's overall good condition, with well-retained post-war bluing, showcases its resilience and historical significance.
- Original, authentic German M-1898/05 Bayonet
- Heavy, 14.5-inch steel blade with distinctive bulge
- Original maker mark, F.W. HÖLLER SOLINGEN
