Original Item: Only One Available. This is a Pre WWI, Philippine-American War (1899-1902) dated U.S. M1892 bayonet, made for the Springfield Model 1892–99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. It is fitted with its original all steel scabbard with a swivel belt loop on the back. These are very rarely seen on today's market, especially with the scabbard included and fully intact.
The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle.
This example is in great condition, with the original bright finish oxidized to a gray/brown coloration. Blade does not appear to have been sharpened, and shows honest use, most likely in a tropical environment. The edge does show wear with a few very small nicks present. The 1892 pattern ribbed grips are in good condition with just a few dents and chips, and are held in place by ground flat domed rivets. The wood does show some wear and open grain.
The blade is marked 1900 on one side, and US on the other, and has a fully functional bayonet catch. The scabbard is in very good condition, with a blued finish, and a fully functional swivel. The scabbard body is straight, with minor surface rust and a few soft dents.
This is an excellent example for being 125 years old! Comes more than ready for display.
