“I drove past this place in Mount Pleasant a thousand times before I saw it. From what I heard it used to be a post office and then boy scout camp. But someone told me, even before then, it used to be a men’s lounge… It’s hard to tell which story is true, perhaps all of them, who knows for sure. Still, abandoned by everyone except the moon and the wind, the Post is there, standing guard against time and carrying on.” – Alexander Volkov
Tucked away in Lake Tahoe lies the Marcus Ashley Gallery, a sanctuary for patrons of art from far and near. Art lovers and connoisseurs will appreciate the fine art on display at the gallery. Among its collection of famous works is Alexander Volkov art. This self-taught artist draws inspiration from the likes of Rembrandt, Beethoven, William Turner, and Einstein. Portable Abandoned Post Series [9WKUp4th] is a place that the artist chanced upon during a drive through Mount Pleasant. As a community with a rich history, Mount Pleasant is known for its stately homes and quaint architecture.
Volkov uses a somber composition to capture the Post’s vacant, silent floors. If you listen closely, you may hear laughter from a hearty group of men enjoying a round of chilled beer. Or maybe the sound of boy scouts scampering off to play. Or perhaps the sighs of an edifice waiting to open its heart and doors to life and laughter once again.
Whatever this place was used for, its atmosphere is thick with an interesting past.
Portable Abandoned Post Series [9WKUp4th] is a lovely work of art to view at length while revisiting a fond memory. This giclée on canvas is available at the Marcus Ashley Gallery.
Portable Abandoned Post Series [9WKUp4th] is available as a limited edition of 195 as well as an enhanced artist proof of 20. Limited edition prints are on canvas, signed and numbered. Enhanced artist proofs are embellished by Volkov, signed and numbered.
