The New France

In my traditional 'Wines of France' class, we taste Bordeaux, Burgundy, and the Loire.  We most likely try a Chinon from the Loire Valley, and perhaps even a Champagne.  No class on France would be complete without them.  The wines from these regions have been revered for centuries.  And with good reason, the wines are delicious, with inimitable character.

In this class, however, we go beyond these classics and discover the regions less acclaimed, where young producers and old vignerons alike are producing shockingly good wines, often for far less money than their fabled counterparts.  Not only less money, but equally distinct in their ability to tell the story of where they are made - the soil, the weather, and the indigenous grapes with which they are made.

We will likely visit the Languedoc and Roussillon, perhaps Madiran, home of the famed Tannat grape.  We'll swing through the Jura, where many of today's most sought after white wines are produced, as well as try wines from producers who, while they might be located in a classic zone, are bending the rules, and making wines quite distinct from their neighbors.

We'll taste 8-9 wines, and yes, cheese, breads, and charcuterie will be served - the good stuff and plenty of it.  I hope to see you, and thank you for your consideration.
