Reversible firefighter's hanten 半纏 (heavier weight coat made popular in the 18th century) with sashiko 刺し子 (traditional hand stitching or quilting used as reinforcement and decoration) throughout.  The coat is made from multiple layers of cotton held together with upwards of 100 stitches per square inch. Interior features tsutsugaki 筒描 (resist dying process).  Shishi Guardian lions throw their children off cliffs to insure that they are tough enough to be good guardians. This rare set of Hanten, gloves and hat complete the image with cranes flying in the hat above while the below in the peony surrounded waterfall the tradition of separating the good guardians from the weak.
