Description
A simple bivy with entry from the side or above.
The ridge zipper on this bivy allows access from the side or above. It's a good option for those who want to leave the 'upper' draped loosely on the ground and then raise the apex after getting in. The zipper runs along the center of the netting from the leading edge to the rear apex. The width and height taper for efficiency, while the tub helps provide extra splash protection. Offered in two sizes and two lengths* to help dial in your setup.
- Our lightest & simplest bivy.
- Tapered shape for efficiency
- Tub-floor provides extra splash protection.
- Rigging for connecting the bivy to a tarp is included.
*If pairing with the Cirriform, the longer option will fit under the Regular Length 1P Cirriform Tarp (note that we strongly recommend the Y-zip Bug Bivy over the Chest zip for pairing with the Cirriform).
Partners well with our:
Which zip is right for me?
We also offer bivys with Y-zips and Chest zips.
- Ridge Zip: Entry from the side/above. Best suited for tarp pitches that allow better access from the side or from the top. Mid-weight option.
- Chest Zip: Entry from the front. Best suited for a-frame tarps, especially smaller ones. Lightest option.
- Y-Zip: Entry from the front, side, diagonal, or above. Unzips all the way to the front corners which improves access. Well suited for most tarps. Heaviest option. Best bivy for pairing with our Cirriform Tarp, by far.
Made in Montana, USA from imported materials.

Set-up & use
Download our PDF pitching guide here.
The tub-floor is intended to be suspended from its top corners by clipping them out to your tarp's corners using the included rigging. Suspend the upper off or your face and feet by clipping it to points above. Or, simply let the bivy drape over you, maybe suspending the front apex to keep the netting off of your face. For recommendations on how to install the rigging, please see the "Rigging" tab.
You may wish to seam seal the corners of the tub-floor. It shouldn't be necessary for most situations, but may be helpful should you find water pooling on the ground around you.
For simpler set-up when pitched without a tarp, consider using the Stand-alone rigging kit which allows the bivy to be pitch with only 4 stakes and your poles. For more information, please see the link.
Rigging
To get started
Included: Rigging (shock cord, clips, and cord locks) is included with the bivy. See the Specs for exactly what the bivy comes with.
You'll want to attach rigging to 6 locations on the bivy: top corners of the tub (4) and apexes (2).
To determine the length of the cords: Lay the bivy under your pitched tarp. Then, measure the distance from the bivy's corner to the tarp's associated corner. Cut the shock cord to that length (the two front lengths should be equal, as should the two lengths at the foot).
To install the cords:
You don’t need to follow our method, but this is how we like to do it.
At the corners
- Tie a loop on one end of the shock cord. We like to use a simple overhand loop knot.
- Using a clinch knot, tie on a mitten hook to the other end of the cord.
- Attach the loop end of the cord to the tub with a girth hitch.
At the apexes
- Tie a loop on one end of the shock cord using an overhand loop knot.
- Pass the free end of the cord through a cord lock.
- Pass the free end of the cord through the small webbing loop at the apex.
- Using a clinch knot, tie on a mitten hook to the free end of the cord.
- NOTE: On the Ridge & Y-zip, webbing loops are found on both sides of the zipper at the front apex. Pass the cord through the loop on the side opposite the side you'd like to bivy to open towards.
Stand-alone rigging kit:
For pitching the bivy on its own, we also offer a stand-alone rigging kit. This lightweight kit allows you to pitch the bivy with your poles and just four stakes. Please see the rigging kit's page for more information and instructions.
