This unique and varied collection is produced in northwest Afghanistan and has a similar construction to the Ziegler rugs. The wool is sheared by hand from the indigenous Karukal sheep. It is then handspun and coloured using natural vegetable and mineral dyes. These pieces have utilised attractive old Persian designs and patterns from unusual museum pieces. They are generally more vibrant colours and less muted shades. However, the exciting and uplifting colours remain almost Jewel-like. The final finishing processes are carried out in Pakistan, where some post-production occurs; this will mean alignment corrections, surface clipping and tumbling, and the washing mentioned earlier.
