Malbec's journey began in the Bordeaux region of France, where it developed from the lesser-known grapes Magdeleine Noire des Charentes and Prunelard. Although it was once one of the five key red varietals used in Bordeaux blends, its presence has diminished over time, largely due to its susceptibility to frost in the region's maritime climate. Today, the number of Malbec plantings in Bordeaux is steadily declining. Known for its plush mouthfeel and rich flavors of plum and earth, varietal Malbec captivates wine lovers with its deep, dark hue.

Inspired by the success of Malbec in Argentina, Chilean winemakers began to plant their own vines in the early 1900s. Initially, the quality of Chilean Malbec lagged due to a focus on bulk production rather than meticulous winemaking techniques. However, in recent decades, Chilean Malbec has gained recognition as a refined alternative to its Argentine counterpart. Unlike the concentrated and robust character of Argentine Malbec, the Chilean version is often lighter and fresher, showcasing higher acidity and floral notes.
