They are lightweight but sturdy, microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, melamine and BPA-free.  These are made in the USA from a melamine-like polymer and are not ceramic. Measures approximately 10" x 14"- they are not large platters.  The original, hand-painted artwork is printed onto the platter. The platter itself is not hand-painted.
